What began as a casual conversation soon became a shared community space for stories, generosity, and connection. Through thoughtful ideas and generous neighbours, Sadashivanagar now has a cozy reading corner where books and people come together.

A Chance Conversation That Sparked an Idea

A chance conversation, a neighbour’s idea, and a few generous donations and Sadashivanagar now has a cozy community book corner where everyone can read, share, and pass it on.
The spark came while inviting Dr. Jayshree Khargae to be the Chief Guest for the 20 Years of Orchards Dental & Orchards Wellness Organisation inauguration in August 2024. During the conversation, she casually remarked,
“We don’t really have a reading corner or library in the neighbourhood.”
That simple observation stayed on.

A Good Idea Already in the Air

Around the same time, we had noticed a thoughtful book exchange initiative at Sankey Tank, started by SRWA member Vinod Jain. It was a beautiful concept, books freely exchanged,  though not always convenient for everyone to access.

A Timely Visit, A Generous Offer

Then came a happy coincidence. Prof. Sudha Medhappa from Mount Carmel College, referred by Shobha Jothi Prakash, visited Orchards Wellness and generously offered a few good reads for the front office.
That was the nudge the idea needed. Why not give pre-loved books a second life right within the neighbourhood?

From Idea to Action

With Vinod Jain’s earlier book club framework in mind, the focus became clear: not a static library, but a living, circulating collection.
The idea was simple: share, borrow, return, repeat, keeping books in motion and accessible to all.

Community Power: When Books Rolled In

Momentum truly picked up when Aarti Vaneet arrived with four cartons of wonderful books. From there, contributions grew organically. Shelves filled, conversations sparked, and excitement spread.
What started as a small idea was now clearly a community effort.
